Pickups and Line 6 Helix

This Sunday was a good day for tone experimenting ! Everybody knows that the right pickup can do wonders on your guitar. Finally getting the tone you want … That counts when playing on tube guitar amps as well as … eh … on digital amps. Sometimes the right output, impedance, the right signal flow, can do wonders interacting with a digital machine as well. Spending a few hours playing with the Line 6 HELIX and the same instrument, loaded with Seymour Duncan SSL-5, Lindy Fralin Real ‘54s, Suhr V70 or the Suhr ML set, … revealed a lot !!!...

Experimenting with stomp boxes !

Today I am in a good shape and I have got fresh ears. Earlier this week, I already modified an Ibanez AZ242F with a set of Dimarzio’s (Tone Zone / Air Norton) and I really liked the sound and feel of the mod. I found that today was a good moment to (re-)test some guitar effects and their combinations. With exactly that guitar. For drive, I had the JAM Rattler, Fuzz Phrase, Red Muck and Lucydreamer, the Providence Heat Blaster, Maxon TS-808, SD-9 and the Chase Bliss Audio Brothers preselected. Made in Eastern Europe, Russia, China, … New Old Stock are very old tubes previously made in Germany, U.S.A., … All of them are selected tubes, not standard. All of them are double triodes, so you can think of them like a double shot gun : they have two sides doing the same thing. Indeed a 4 tube preamp actually is 8 half tubes … These different tubes have different outputs and functions,...

The Ibanez AZ series guitars

The Ibanez AZ series guitars

Why do we really like the AZ2402 Prestige and AZ242F Premium !? Today was a great day to test once again this promising range of guitars. I played a prototype once and some time ago did a first test and communicated about it. First of all : the roasted maple necks with sober inlay, the locking tuners, the Gotoh T-series tremolo, new contour body in alder or basswood with maple top. It’s all super, great. The sleek ( slightly thicker then what we usually get from Ibanez )neck, jumbo frets, the titanium saddles on the Prestige, … The complete guitar total...
